TuristasDirector: John Stockwell I first started to watch Turistas at night alone in my apartment. It only took about 30 seconds for me to freak completely out, switch it off and put on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (even though the Oompa Loompas give me the creeps). I'm not normally such a chicken, but this film has an abnormally creepy start. So the next time I went to watch it I made sure it was during the day so I could actually get past the opening credits. Turistas which means 'tourist' in English, is set in beautiful Brazil, where a group of young travelers - who include Australia's Melissa George who plays Prue and heartthrob Josh Duhamel from the hit TV show Las Vegas - quickly learn that there is more to the exotic country than beaches packed with beautiful women. But don't worry. In true horror flick tradition there is still plenty of eye candy in the movie. A bus crash in a remote part of the country leaves the travelers stranded on a secluded beach that comes complete with a bar. But just when they think they have landed in heaven and the movie looks set to rip of The Beach (complete with Moby soundtrack), things begin to go terribly wrong. As the movie unfolds, perhaps the best thing is that it's not just a slasher blood bath style movie. People actually survive at the end of the film! Warning: Plot spoiler in previous paragraph. If you liked Wolf Creek, Hostel and Saw, you will dig Turistas. Verbatim: In a word: Twisted |
