Don't you just hate it when a movie has a really strong start, only to fall on its ass half way through?
It's like the makers think we have them hooked we can just slack off for the last 45 minutes and they wont notice. Well let this be a warning to all you movie makers out there: WE NOTICE and it sucks.
That's exactly what happened in The Invisible a remake of a Swedish film called Den Osynlige which was based on the novel of the same name.
In this adaptation, a teenage boy is bashed and finds himself in limbo - not yet dead but invisible to the living - when he discovers the only person who might be able to bring him back is his attacker.
Like I said great start and yes I was hooked, but it was at about the halfway mark that things turned ugly.
What disappointed me about this film was the number of unnecessary scenes that had no bearing on the storyline. It's a very frustrating thing when the strong scenes were also under done, which is all too often the case when cramming a book into an hour and a half.
New Comer Justin Chatwin plays Nick Powell, the victim, and does a good job and no doubt will pop up in other teenage clicks in years to come.
Why Marcia Gay Harden chose to be involved in this movie is a mystery to me... and why she produced such a terrible performance also has me baffled. Obviously you can tell I'm a fan of Harden, but after this film she will have to pull off something very grand to win me back.
Something also to be noted about The Invisible: its trailer is very misleading!
Verbatim: Annie Newton: "Who's the broken one now?...(AFTER PUNCHING HIM)" Nick Powell: You are. Still you. Annie Newton: "What did you say? (she punches him again)" Nick Powell: Still you
In a word: Disgraceful
