Heath Ledger tribute

The world has a lost a great actor, nay an artist, in Heath Ledger. While the rest of the media investigate how he died and who he was with, here at DVDetails HQ, we’ve been discussing the man’s life on film. His hits. His rare misses. Basically, we’ve been talking about the thing that drove him – acting.

We loved most of his work, and respected the growing intensity of his talent and his approach to each performance.

So in the interest of keeping the memory of the man safe and sound, we decided to open up our inter-office discussion to the general public. This is a place for you to discuss Ledger's skill and talent, rather than gossip about his demise.

With that in mind, here is DVDetails' selection of the top 10 Ledger films:

  1. The Dark Knight – Okay we know it’s not out yet and we’re basing it solely on the previews, but this looks like an awesome performance. From all reports, Ledger was on the cusp of stealing the Joker away from the perennial Jack Nicholson. Side note: Does anyone else see the similarity between Ledger in this and Brandon Lee in The Crow?
  2. The Patriot – his “big break”. He was always declared the next Mel Gibson, and here he outclassed the older Aussie.
  3. A Knight’s Tale – A rare looking into Ledger’s lighter side as Sir William Thatcher in this glorious movie.
  4. Monster’s Ball – He more than holds his own and even steals the limelight in a movie best remember for the sex scene between Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton.
  5. Two Hands – His best Aussie movie. By far!
  6. Candy – Solid effort.
  7. Lords of Dogtown – Showcased his genius and ability to transform as an actor.
  8. 10 Things I Hate About You – The hair was terrible and the accent thick, but he was perfectly cast.
  9. Casanova – Made the best of a bad movie.
  10. The Brother’s Grimm – More than held his own against Matt Damon in what was, essentially, a woeful flick.

I first saw Heath Ledger on Australian television in 'Roar'. He was beautiful. I admit, I was not a huge fan of some of his movies, but he made me a believer with Brokeback Mountain. Like so many others I had already marked a space on my calender to see 'The Dark Knight' & now I look forward to seeing it as a final farewell. God Bless & Good Night Heath Ledger.

Heath was a fantastic actor, he could do all sorts of roles. It is very sad that he is gone for the world and especially his family I especially loved his work in the Patriot!!!!!

Refreshing to see a tribute that's all about Heath's work, not the way he tragically died. BUT! how on earth do you have a top 10 without BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN?! he was nominated for an OSCAR for pity's sake! Two Hands should be higher up, and The Patriot & Knight's Tale towards the end. But well done and RIP Heath x

Thanks to all of you for not doing the usual journo thing of what you don't know you make up. I am so tired of hearing nothing but gossip (largely unsubstantiated) which does enormous damage to the memory of these guys and I hate to think what it does to their families.
