Blood DiamondDirector: Edward Zwick
So what happens when the hardworking rebels of Sierra Leone do just that? Well, the lads who are yet to sprout facial hair let them down is what happens. When they tip toe into battle armed with some of the finest Russian-made weapons known to man, all these boys want to do is swap Pokemon cards and give each other wet willies. And of course, when they see someone scrape their knee while diving into a foxhole, they start howling for their daddies to take them home. Unbelievable. Is there really any wonder these uprisings never take? Listen up and listen good people. If you are ever going to overthrow the peace-loving government of some unknown African nation – and we all know that way down in the deep bowels of your soul where sunlight doesn’t enter that you dream of of doing just that – don’t go in with any soldiers under the age of 16. And for the love of everything good and holy men… don’t ever get distracted by a female reporter, out to boost her flagging career with faded slogans like “I shoot with a camera, not a gun”. I don’t care if her name is Jennifer Connelly, lets see her Nikon save her with a platoon of 13-year-olds bearing down on her.

have seen the movie. It's a good one. Lots of what is displayed is actually hapenning. Yes, the cheap shots at South Africa are BS. But kids are being armed with AKs. The main actor's South Arican accent is a joke, it misses by a mile, but it must be one of the tougest accents to duplicate, my china, and the old Rhodesian accent is closer to a Brit one, anyway. But please in the RSA diamond mining is one of the closest controlled industries in the world. And those working in it are very well paid indeed. What you see in the movie is 7,000km away, same as Bolivia to Houston - but yes, what you see is happening. Now. but it's got nothing to do with South Africa, and few South Africans if any! are involved.

Response to Major Issues: What total BS.
"Blood Diamond" is a brilliant film, not least because of DiCaprio's fine performance. I was never a big DiCaprio fan, but that changed after I saw this film (on dvd; I missed at the cinema).
I lived in South Africa for several years in the '80s and '90s and was there again last year ('06), and I'm telling you, DiCaprio's South African accent, attitude, and demeanor are impeccable. He's totally captured the persona of the Afrikaner vigilante (and I've met quite a few over the years). He deserved an Oscar for this performance.

That must be one important rock!
It looks compelling, but Mjr Issues has some strong points! If i do watch it, it will be with a projector and large bass (with no wife...) :)

Forget the atrocities of civil war. Forget the back handed dig at the fine people of America and their fortitude in purchasing diamonds from all over the world! Forget the latent attack on South Africans.
