The Dude vs TMNT

By: The Dude

When the folks at Roadshow offered up interviews with all four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who else could we send but our own cool dude himself – The Dude. Like some weird tag team bout, The Dude goes mano et mano with the Turtles in turn, and comes out trumps.

The Dude vs MICHAELANGELO

The Dude: So Mickey! What have you been up to since we last saw you?
MICHAELANGELO: “Well, without the Shredder around, and after defeating a whole buncha other baddies, we all sort of just started living separate lives. Don came up with this idea to make money... which involves me putting on a goofy Turtle head and a fake zipper and then get beat up by 5 year olds at birthday parties. Huh... funny how HE didn't volunteer for that part. Otherwise, bored, bored, bored until Leo gets back from training.”

What can we expect from the new movie?
“The movie rocks! It's like a big epic story and action is AMAZING! Not to mention that yours truly looks totally awesome in an awesome skateboarding scene.”

How was it being reunited with your brothers for this next adventure?
“It was good, dude. Finally getting Leo back was the best thing ever. It was a little awkward at first between him and Raph, but eventually it all worked out.”

Your weapon of choice is the nunchaku, would you ever consider changing?
“I wouldn't mind changing it up occasionally... but once a chucker, always a chucker, bro.”

Man, they musta given you a new skateboard for the movie, yeah?
“TOTALLY! On the DVD, if you like freeze frame it, you'll see a flaming turtle skull on the bottom! It's rocks! My best painting yet.”

You got a favourite pizza?!
“Um... the kind with crust!”

Alright mate, I'm not flirting with you, but in my humble opinion you’re the funniest of the Turtles, do you mind that label?
“Nah, it's cool. I like it. Tho Raph's a pretty funny guy once you get past the 'I'm gonna knock you upside the head' stuff...”

Was it great to get back above ground for this new adventure?
“New York has never smelled so sweet, dude... and that's saying a lot”

Tell us about the most evil character you have faced over the years.
“Has to be Shredder, hands down. I mean... look at him!”

The Dude vs LEONARDO

The Dude: How did it feel to get back to the city reunited with Splinter and your brothers?
LEONARDO: “It was great. I was really excited to be home. Then all the tension started up with Raph like we didn't even skip a beat. The only difference is that he seemed, I don't know, more angry than usual.”

Was Splinter pleased to see you return?
“I think so, as much as he allows himself to show emotion. I didn't realize how much I missed him until I got back.”

You and Raphael have a fantastic rooftop scene in the new movie, was that hard to film?
“Yes. Pouring rain, running, and weapons don't usually make a smooth and safe environment. It's probably the best scene in the movie…but I'm probably biased.”

You defeated The Shredder some time ago now, do you fear he may come back?
“There is always that fear with our old enemy. We've learned to expect the unexpected.”

Do you feel pressured as leader of the Turtle brothers?
“I did more at the beginning of the movie. But now I have learned that being a leader also means sharing the pressure with your team when needed. I think I have a much better understanding of it now.”

How do you wind down after a hard day protecting the streets of NY?
“Classical music is nice. Meditation. A good workout, believe it or not.”

You’re a devoted student of martial arts, do you have a favourite move?
“I have recently become a fan of the Capoeira. It's like martial arts through dance moves. It's beautiful to watch and very difficult to master.”

Why choose Katanas as your weapon?
“Why NOT?! They're great in close combat, and mass combat. They require precision and great skill to wield properly. I love them.”

What sort of music do you boys listen to?
“Mikey is probably a better judge, but I've heard him raving about Jet, Gym Class Heroes, Cobra Starship and Big City Rock. But personally, I'm a huge fan of the score by Klaus Badelt. He did movies like Pirates of the Caribbean 2, so his music added a great epic feel to the movie. The last thing this feels like is a cartoon!”

The Dude vs DONATELLO

The Dude: Tell us more about the sewer and your set up there. Is it a great place to live?
DONATELLO: “It's actually become pretty neat. We have our own central air system working now. We just finished a great add on with a bathroom. We have a separate room for our dojo and FINALLY we all have our own bedrooms. The others complained about my techno junk getting all over the place, but I think they were just whiners”.

Would it be fair to say you’re the least violent turtle?
“I appreciate the thought, but I am trained just as my brothers are. I have an economy of moves when fighting an opponent, compared to, say, Raph who simply goes berserk and I think wastes more energy than necessary.”

You face some pretty gruesome characters in TMNT, we’re sure intellect wasn’t quite enough to fight them off!
“Yes, it's funny how logic doesn't appeal to 10 foot hairy monsters...”

Tell me more about your weapon; the bó
“It's a little misleading, which I guess represents me. I've ergonomically adjusted it for maximum effectiveness. It's incredibly strong and can withhold a lot of impact. I use it as a weapon, and also for pole vaulting moves during fights.”

You save the world in the new movie, how did that feel?
“It felt... good. It's a bit of a bummer than no one will know it's us, but that's the plight of being a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.”

Can you take a break now to work on your inventions?!
“Definitely. I'm actually working on an anti-snore device for Mikey as we speak.”

How do you get on with your brothers?
“I think pretty well. Leo and I share a lot of logic and reason. Mikey's always been my partner on so many of these missions. Raph tries to act tough a lot around me, pretend that I'm there sometimes. But we still care for each other a lot.”

Have you tried the TMNT computer game?
“Well, I have for the 35 seconds that Mikey hasn't been playing with it!”

Have you seen the new film yet?
“I have. I have to say that it's a big movie. It feels like the movie we should have been making all along. It's great to be back on DVD.”

Was TMNT fun to make?
“It was a blast! For once we did a movie where the fun and action/adventure came before the comedy. Not that it isn't funny, but we worked hard to make this as exciting as possible for all the fans!”

The Dude vs RAPHAEL

The Dude: What have you been up to since we last saw you on our TV screens?
RAPHAEL: “I, uh, I been busy. Been goin' out at night. Doin' a little of this, little of that. Have you heard about the Nightwatcher? He's a new vigilante that protects the streets of New York City, since Splinter forbade us from goin' to the surface. Nightwatcher's pretty cool...”

You face up to very pretty scary monsters in TMNT, who was the worst?
“I'd say it was that little lobster-lookin' freak called the Jersey Devil. He's like a chihuahua hopped up on some energy drink or something. He was SO hard to defeat!”

Was it a blast to make the film? You seem to have the best gadgets and as for the bike…!
“What bike you talkin' about? I don't ride no bike. You must be confusin' me with the Nightwatcher and his cool ride...”

How often do you use your weights?
“Bout every day. It's the only way I keep from throwin' Mikey through a wall some days.”

Do you train with your weapon of choice the sai often?
“Yeah I do. They're normally a defensive weapon, but I use 'em every which way. That way, no one sees you comin'”

How does it feel to be loved by children and adults across the world?!
“It's cool, i guess. Kinda creeps me out, but I guess it's a compliment. “

How are things between you and Leonardo since his return?
“Things are still sometimes tense, but they're good. He's my bro, y'know? As much as I want to kill 'im sometimes... I can't “kill him”. That's just the way we roll.

What do you like most about NY city?
“I love the noise. I feel safe in the loud noise. That, and New York pizza, baby.”

Do you prefer being above or below ground?
“Definitely above. Below ground, we got no dirtbags to beat up. But up top, it's like an all you can eat buffet of criminal dumbbells.”

Congratulations on the new DVD – I loved it!
“That's great. Thank you! I did all my own stunts too.”
